A win always makes the end of the memory better. While celebrating the team’s Senior Night on Friday, the Ridgeview Panthers then went on to earn a 5-0 shutout over the Christ’s Church Academy Eagles to make for a fitting ending to the evening. Ridgeview honored their five Panthers in a pregame ceremony at Tippy Roberts Field, and then they earned only their second shutout of the season.

Gabe Torres and Cody Cigno combined for seven scoreless innings. Torres made the start and delivered five clean frames, allowing just three hits and a walk, with three strikeouts on 56 total pitches. Cigno took over in the sixth and finished it off, striking out five while allowing a walk and hitting one a batter.

The Panthers (10-12) scored in each of the first four innings to account for all of their runs. Clayton Gulbrand got it started in the first by leading off with a double to left that immediately had them threatening with a runner in scoring position, that runner being courtesy-runner Xavier Quintin. A passed ball allowed Quintin to race to third, and then an infield error saw him cross the plate with the winning run.

It was Gulbrand again in the second, as he delivered an RBI single that drove in Cody Holland to make it a 2-0 advantage. Holland led off the frame with a single and then advanced into scoring position on a ground out by Hunter Beech.

The lead-off batter continued to deliver, as Tommy Glasspoole started off the bottom of the third by lining a double to left. Keegan Roach then put the ball high and deep enough to allow Glasspoole to tag up and move to third on the fly out, and Cody Holland came through with an RBI single to center.

The first three batters all reached to again apply instant pressure in the fourth. Beech led with an infield single, Jose Morales followed with a base hit to third and Gulbrand was hit by a pitch that loaded the bases. Beech scored on a balk, and Morales came in on an RBI sac-fly off of the bat of Glasspoole.

The Eagles (12-6) managed just three hits on the day, and Brady Watson had two of them in going 2-for-3 with a double. Evan Pall went 1-for-3, and also had a double.
