Nugent’s Five RBIs Lead Trinity Christian Past Ridgeview
Major League Hall of Fame pitcher Early Wynn once famously stated that Opening Day of baseball season is not like any other game. For Trinity Christian Academy senior Logan Nugent, the 2017 season-opener will certainly be one to remember. The veteran drove in five runs and also scored twice to help lead Trinity Christian to a 13-3 win over Ridgeview on the first day of the Florida high school season.
Nugent had gone a combined 0-for-5 on Opening Day over the past two seasons, but the senior made the most of the last Opening Day of his high school career. The University of South Carolina-Sumter signee was 2-for-3 with a double and a grand slam home run that was part of a seven-run first inning that put the Conquerors right out in the lead. Tyler Isenberg was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, Chad Ragland contributed two RBIs and Keilin Washington was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Brandon Dumas and Tyler Robison were both 2-for-3 with a double and a run to account for the bulk of the Panthers’ offense. Carlos Gonzalez added an RBI single.
The Conquerors will look to carry this momentum into a big Wednesday meeting with defending 5A state champion Bolles. This game between the two most-recent state champions in the area will serve as a tough, early test on the season. Trinity Christian will have the confidence of victory on their side.
“You know when you win the first one, you can’t lose them all,” Wynn also famously said.
